The Government has launched a consultation to determine how best to tackle problems relating to young people and alcohol and Torbay MP Adrian Sanders is encouraging parents, young people and the wider public in the Bay to make their views known.
The Youth Alcohol Action Plan looks at how to address problem drinking and support, as well as chastise, those for whom excessive alcohol consumption leads to greater problems.
Adrian will be stressing the need to tackle the underlying problems that prompt youth alcoholism, such as poor employment prospects, a lack of youth facilities and child poverty.
Adrian said: “There is growing concern over the increasing and excessive use of alcohol by a minority of young people. This can lead to anti social behaviour, a strain on public services and for young people themselves, alcohol misuse can affect their future prospects.”
“In Torbay the police are well aware of the problems and do all they can but we need to tackle the wider causes of this problem as well as cracking down on alcohol fuelled anti social behaviour.”
